We had to cancel tonight’s practice beacuse the singer’s voice is knackered. He had an infection a couple of months ago and it got damaged and never properly recovered, so he’s having to take some time off now. Hopefully he’ll get better soon.
Had a fun practice last night. We’re trying to do some trickier (by our standards anyway) songs. We weren’t very sure of some of them going in, but while none of them were perfect, I think they were all better than we thought they’d be for a first attempt. We’ll keep working on them and hopefully at least some of them will work out. The songs were:
- Sum 41 - Fat Lip
- Limp Bizkit - Take a Look Around
- Alter Bridge - Metalingus
- Three Days Grace - Wake Up
Tonight’s practice was cancelled due to the snow - looks like it’ll be another couple of weeks before we can practice again :-(
Had our last practice for three weeks last night - singer is away on holiday until then.
Got nine new songs to practice while he’s away though, including:
- Biffy Clyro - Bubbles
- Feeder - Buck Rogers
- Black Sabbath - Paranoid
- Ocean Colour Scene - Riverboat Song
- Weezer - Buddy Holly
Plus I need to go over everything else we know to make sure I haven’t forgotten anything :-)
Had the last practice before the gig tonight. Went okay - as well as can be expected considering it’s only our fifth practice with the new drummer.
Shattered now - time for a nice early night I think :-)
Another good practice and a couple more new songs:
- The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary
- Alkaline Trio - Stupid Kid
Had a good practice yesterday. Three new songs and we weren’t too rusty despite nearly 6 weeks off :-)
And my new toy (the RP355) sounded great :-)
The practise went well - four new songs in the bag :-)
Singer is now away off-shore for a fortnight, so no more practising ‘til he’s back.
Last practice tonight before the gig tomorrow night … finger and toes are all crossed :-)
Tonight’s practice is cancelled again because of the snow. Only a week to go, we’ve still got a song to learn and the snow has defeated us again. Aaaargh!
My beloved new amp stopped working at last weekend’s practice - it just stopped making any sound. It’s going to be going back to the supplier soon, but there’s no way it’ll be replaced in time for the gig :-(
But, despite that the practice went very well - if my memory is correct, we got through all but one song and they all sounded great. Really looking forward to the gig now :-)
My new amp arrived yesterday, just in time for last night’s practice :-)
It’s a Marshall MA50C combo. It’s 50 watts, all valve, single 12” speaker, and it sounded pretty good last night. I still need to work on getting the best sound from it, but I think it’s going to be great :-)

One bummer about last night’s practice was the decision to drop the Foo Fighter’s song The Pretender - we’ve been trying it for weeks and it’s just not working out. We’ll probably be replacing it with another Foo’s track - not sure which one yet.
